What Is Sin?
SIN is the major PROBLEM of mankind. "..For sin is the transgression of the
law" of God, 1 John 3:2. This breaking of God's law includes missing His mark,
left of the mark, right of the mark, overshooting the mark, undershooting the
mark, and not even caring what the mark is. Galatians 5:19-21 outlines 17 works
of the flesh such as, "adultery, fornication, uncleanness..". Other sins of
wrongdoing, evil and meanness not specifically listed, are covered in the phrase,
"and such like." Sin separates a person from God (Isaiah 59:2). Until they
"repent" [definition] of their sins and seek God's forgiveness through obedience,
they are in spiritual death (meaning estranged from God, Romans 6:23) When
accountable sinners obey GOD'S plan of redemption under the New Testament,
they obtain salvation from sin. When they remain faithful they keep salvation.
What Is Salvation?
SALVATION is the ANSWER to sin. Salvation means to be saved from sin
(Mark 16:16); to be forgiven of sin and redeemed (bought back) from sin
(Ephesians 1:7); to be rescued, recovered and delivered from Satan, sin and hell (2
Timothy 2:26; 2 Peter 2:9). Salvation from sin is the purpose of God's word to
His human creatures. The theme of the Bible is redemption (to be bought back)
from sin (1 Corinthians 6:20; Acts 20:28). Religion is from two words: re (back)
plus lego (bind), thus meaning "to bind back." Religion is that remedial system of
God whereby souls may be forgiven of sin and "bound back" to Holy God.
Religion is a probation and is conditioned upon obedience to God's commands.
Upon obedience to the gospel of Christ, "the Lord added to the church" those
who are thus saved (Acts 2:47). This salvation was made possible by the
sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on a cross in the first century A.D. Propitiation
(Romans 3:25; 1 John 2:2 & 4:10) by Christ means He "appeased the wrath" (cp.
Zechariah 6:8, NASB) that our sins waged, and also "satisfied the justice"
(Hebrews 10:1-14) required by the Eternal. What does salvation in Christ
(Romans 8:1-2) do to sin? It gives sin remission (cancel, pardon, Acts 2:38),
forgiveness (Acts 8:22), wash away (Acts 22:16), blotted out (erased, Acts 3:19).
In Micah 7:19, it said "cast all their sin into the depths of the sea." Salvation is
required because no sin will enter heaven (Revelation 21:27; 1 Corinthians 15:50).
False teaching to the contrary, the same way that saves souls from sin (Acts
2:38-40), at the same instance adds them into the church of Christ (Galatians 3:27;
Acts 2:47), thus a member of Christ's body (1 Corinthians 12:13,20); born again
(John 3:3-5); a Christian (Acts 26:28). As the inspired apostles and early Christians
showed, all these Bible terms refer to obeying the gospel.
Interestingly, Savior is the meaning of the name "Jesus" (Matthew 1:21-25, "God
saves"). Jesus (Savior) is His given name, and "Christ" (Messiah) is His function
(John 1:41). Thus worthy is He to "taketh away the sin of the world" (John
1:29), in those who will obey Him.
